Analog Input Signal Connection

Types of signal sources

U2300A Series DAQ User's Guide
The U2300A series DAQ provides up to 64 single–ended (SE)
or 32 differential analog input (DI) channels. The analog
signal is converted to digital represented value by the A/D
converter. In order to obtain a more accurate measurement
from the A/D conversion, it is important to understand the
type of signal source of analog input modes RSE, NRSE, and
DIFF.
Ground-referenced signal sources
A ground- referenced signal source is defined as a signal
source that is connected in some way to the building's
grounding system. This means that the signal source is
connected to a common ground point with respect to the
U2300A series DAQ (assume the host PC which is connected
with DAQ is in the same power ground).
Floating signal sources
A floating signal source is a signal that is not connected to
the building's grounding system. It is also a device with an
isolated output. Example of floating signal sources are
optical isolator output, transformer output, and
thermocouple.
