Assigning Ip Addresses - Cabletron Systems SmartSwitch 9W006 Quick Start Manual

We define the network devices as follows:
• SmartSwitch Remote Access Module
Site Central: the network's central site. A Cabletron product that has similar software
architecture as the CSX1204. We will use SFVRA-CFG to create the module's configuration
files, then download the files to the module.
• Modem User
Site Rem_Modem: a PC using a modem to access site Central. We will use SFVRA-CFG to
configure basic connectivity information that will be used by site Central.
• CSX100
Site Rem_100: a Cabletron product that does not have similar software architecture as the
module and the CSX1204. We will use SFVRA-CFG to configure basic connectivity
information, but to configure the device itself, you will need to use its own configuration
utility.
• CSX1204
Site Rem_1204: a Cabletron product that has similar software architecture as the module. We
will use SFVRA-CFG to create the CSX1204's configuration files, then download the files to the
system.
Assuming that the SmartSwitch Remote Access Module is already installed, the steps we will
follow to complete this example configuration are as follows:
1. This is a new installation for both the module and the CSX1204. Therefore, we will access the
module and the CSX1204 and
2. Using SFVRA-CFG
a. Start-up SFVRA-CFG.
b. Configure a site template.
c. Add the sites.
d. Add a connection group including the four sites.
e. Add IP information for the sites.
f. Generate updated configuration files.
g. Download the updated configuration files.
3. Configure any needed information on site Rem_ Modem and site Rem_100 so that they can
communicate with site Central.
The sections below provide detailed instructions for the above steps.

SSIGNING DDRESSES
We want to gain access to the SmartSwitch Remote Access Module and the CSX1204 to assign their
IP addresses. The steps are the same for both devices.
1. Connect a PC with a terminal application to the module or CSX1204 using the supplied null
modem cable. Connect one end of the cable to the device's RS232 console port and the other
end to the PC's communication port.
