DISASSEMBLY AND REASSEMBLY OF THE PRIMARY
REDUCTION GEAR CASE
6. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support with jack stands.
7. Place a drain pan under the gear case that is capable of holding
four quarts of oil and drain the oil from the front gear case.
8. If required, remove the drive assembly from the vehicle
Removing and Installing the Drive Assembly
Note:
Refer to
information on removing the drive from the vehicle.
9. Remove the motor only if the entire drive is to be disassembled.
Note:
Refer to Motor Removal and Installation for information on
removing the motor.
10. Remove the cover retaining bolts.
11. Remove the cover plate from the differential and let the remaining
oil drain from the housing.

1. Make sure the key-switch is in the "OFF" position, then remove
the key.
2. Place the forward-reverse switch in the center "OFF" position.
3. Set the park brake.
4. Place blocks under the front wheels to prevent vehicle movement.
5. Disconnect the main positive and negative cables at the batteries.
Always use a lifting strap, hoist, and jack stands, of adequate capacity
to lift and support the vehicle. Failure to use lifting and support devices
of rated load capacity may result in severe bodily injury.
Be careful not to damage the sealing
surfaces on the housings. Damage to
the sealing surface may lead to an
oil leak resulting in damage to the
internal parts of the drive.
