Maintenance, Service, and Repair
ADJUST THE STEERING SHAFT
The steering shaft is adjustable by means of a collar at the rear of the shaft. This adjustment controls the
gear lash of the half gears on the shaft and front fork.
6. Loosen the set screw on the collar.
7. Push the steering shaft half gear up against the half gear
on the fork.
8. While lightly holding the two gears together, push the
collar up against the rear pillow block and tighten the set
screw.
9. Rotate the steering wheel from left to right. Any roughness
is an indication of being too tight. Repeat the procedure
and hold less tension on the gears while setting the collar.
10. Reconnect the main positive and negative cables at the
batteries.
11. Remove the blocks from behind the wheels.
12 Release the parking brake and test drive the vehicle.
