All failure responses start with an N followed by a two hex digit failure
code and a carriage return.

01 Bad command letter
02 Bad checksum
03 Input overrun in serial communication
05 Parameter out of range
08 Error in receipt of a character
09 Cannot calibrate/verify now
0A Internal error
0B Illegal access (read-only variable)
