INTRODUCTION

The following procedures for removal and installation of vehicle components outline the steps and
precautions to take when removing items for replacement or repair of powertrain components
including: (1) motor/transaxle assembly, (2) display gauge, (3) hydraulic brake pressure transducer, (4)
electronic accelerator pedal assembly, (5) DC/DC converter, and (6) control panel assembly.

Capacitor Discharge Procedure

Perform the following procedure before working on the vehicle:

SECTION 3: REMOVAL / INSTALLATION

WARNING: THE CONTROLLER MODULE CONTAINS
CAPACITORS THAT RETAIN A HIGH-VOLTAGE CHARGE EVEN
AFTER THE BATTERY HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED. WEAR
APPROPRIATE SAFETY EQUIPMENT, INCLUDING HIGH-
VOLTAGE GLOVES AND A FACE SHIELD DURING CAPACITOR
DISCHARGE. FAILURE TO DISCHARGE THE CONTROLLER
CAPACITORS BEFORE WORKING WITH THE CONTROLLER MAY
RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.
WARNING: WHEN TESTING AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE, JACK THE
DRIVE WHEELS OFF THE GROUND AND SECURE IN THIS
POSITION WITH JACK STANDS OF ADEQUATE CAPACITY.
WARNING: WHEN TESTING THE CONTROLLER, DO NOT TOUCH
HIGH VOLTAGE CONNECTIONS EXCEPT WITH PROPER TEST
EQUIPMENT. WHEN WORKING INSIDE THE CONTROL PANEL, USE
THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE TO DISCHARGE THE CAPACITORS
INSIDE THE CONTROLLER.
Turn Master "Ignition" switch off.
Wait 5 seconds.
Disconnect battery.
Wait 60 seconds.
Discharge the capacitors in the controller by connecting a load (such as a contactor
coil) across the controller's B+ and B- terminals.
