INTRODUCTION
The following illustrations and procedures apply specifically to the MZ front disc brakes. The rear
brake is a wet brake, integral to the drive axle. For rear brake information refer to Pro-Mec manual in
Chapter 5.
B.
BRAKE PAD REPLACEMENT
Inspect the brake linings any time that the wheels are removed. Check both ends of the outboard pad
by looking in at each end of the caliper. These are the points at which the highest rate of wear
normally occurs. However, at the same time, check the lining thickness of the inboard pad to make
sure that it has not worn prematurely. Look down through the inspection hole in the caliper to view
the inboard pad. Whenever the thickness of any lining is worn to the approximate thickness of the
metal backing, all pads on the axle should be replaced.

SECTION 5: DISC BRAKES
Chock rear wheels and raise front of vehicle.
BE SURE TO REMOVE LUG NUTS ONLY! DO NOT REMOVE
BOLTS OR NUTS FROM THE WHEEL THAT ARE USED TO
SECURE THE TWO-PIECE RIMS. ALWAYS DEFLATE THE TIRE
BEFORE DISASSEMBLING THE WHEELS.
Remove front wheel and tire.
Remove 2/3 of brake fluid from master cylinder reservoir.
Push the piston back into its bore with a suitable piston retractor. (Can also be
accomplished by using a C-clamp.)
Using 3/8" external hex wrench, loosen and remove two (2) mounting (retainer) bolts
(Figure 5-1). Lift the caliper off the rotor and position on drive axle so that the brake
hose will not support the weight of the caliper.
