D-Type Adapters
Single-Input
Configuration
D-type adapters provide the connection between a patch panel or octopus
(hydra) cable that uses RJ-12 or RJ-45 jacks and a modem (DCE) or a
terminal, host, or printer (DTE) that uses a 25-pin RS-232 connector. The
adapter that you need depends on whether you use a single-input
configuration or a dual-input configuration.
In this configuration, described in "Software Version 6.0", DTR and RTS share
pin 1. This configuration is used by software version 6.0, and by versions 6.1
and later if -TERM UseDTRin is set to OnRTS (the default). You can configure
either session control or RTS/CTS flow control, but not both.
Table A-9 shows MOD-TAP part numbers for D-type adapters recommended
for single-input configurations.

Table A-10 shows pin assignments for the DCE adapter, used for attachment
to a modem. Table A-11 shows pin assignments for the DTE adapters, used
for attachment to a terminal, host, or printer. These pin assignments apply
only when the adapters are used in conjunction with the following octopus
(hydra) cables:

Table A-10 and Table A-11 describe adapter connections between RJ-12 pins
and DB-25 pins. Many RS-232 interface adapters provide connections to
RJ-45 cables rather than RJ-12 cables. You can use an RJ-12 cable with an
RJ-45 adapter, fitting the 6-pin RJ-12 plug into the middle six pins of the
8-pin jack. In this case, RJ-45 pins 1 and 8 are not connected, and RJ-12 pins
1 through 6 correspond to RJ-45 pins 2 through 7.
