Upgrading Multilayer Switching Modules From 2.1 to 3.0.5

This section explains the process for upgrading a Multilayer Switching
Module to Release 3.0.5 if the module is starting from Release 2.x.
If the module is starting from Release 3.0 or 3.0.1, see "Upgrading
Multilayer Switching Modules From 3.0 or 3.0.1 to 3.0.5" (the next major
section in this chapter).
This process assumes that:
You have already upgraded the software on the EME modules in your
system to the release numbers noted in Table 1 on page 11.
You have downloaded (from the 3Com Web site) the appropriate
Release 3.0.5 images in a TFTP server directory (usually named "tftp"
or "tftpboot"). To determine the filenames to download, consult
Table 1.
1 Refer to the section "Prerequisites for Software Installation" to ensure
you have complied with the prerequisites stated there and that you have
read important information.
2 Before you upgrade a module, perform the following steps:
a On a given module, note which backplane ports are enabled. Use the
ethernet detail
b If you have four trunk groups defined on a 12-port Multilayer
Switching Module or 10-port Multilayer Switching Module, remove
one trunk group.
c If you use QoS on a given module, review the Release 2.x
configuration of QoS classifiers and controls. Modify your classifiers
and applied controls to reduce the number of classifiers to fewer than
50. To modify or remove a classifier, you must first remove its
associated control.
3 To download software to the module, at the system prompt, enter:
cb9000> download module <slot>.1 all_image <server address>
<filename>
Where
is the slot number of the module,
<slot>
the IP address of the TFTP server where the new software image resides,
and
is the filename of the software for the particular module
<filename>
that you want to upgrade.
The software filename has the extension .all because it includes several
images in one file.
