EME Modules
An EME module provides controller functions and management functions
for the Switch 4007 chassis. Controller functions regulate physical
aspects of the chassis such as power and temperature. Management
functions regulate more sophisticated aspects such as system
configuration, software downloads, and obtaining SNMP data. Because it
has these two main functions, an EME module operates with four pieces
of software:
EMC (controller) boot software
EMC (controller) operational software
EME (management) boot software
EME (management) operational software
Different uses of the same acronym (EME) can be confusing, so bear this
terminology in mind:
In this chapter, when we refer to the module as a whole, we use the
term EME module or, even simpler, the module.
In this chapter, when we refer to EME boot or operational software on
the module, we use terms like EME boot software or, even simpler,
EME boot.
In releases prior to 3.0.0, the active EME was called the Master in the CLI
displays. Beginning with release 3.0.0, the term changed to Primary.
In releases prior to 3.0.0, the inactive EME was called the Slave in the CLI
displays. Beginning with release 3.0.0, the term changed to Secondary.
