SECTION 2 - OPTIVIEW OPERATION
FIGURE 13 - SURGE PROTECTION SCREEN
OVERVIEW
This screen displays a cutaway view of the chiller com-
pressor and all parameters relating to the "Surge Pro-
tection" feature. All setpoints relating to this feature
are maintained at this screen.

Delta P/P
Delta P/P is a parameter that represents system pres-
sure differential or "Head". This value is calculated by
subtracting evaporator pressure from condenser pres-
sure and then dividing by the evaporator pressure.
(condenser pressure – evaporator pressure) /
evaporator pressure
Surge Window Time
When the chiller is first started and begins to run, this
value counts up to the time programmed in the count
window setpoint (1 to 5 minutes). When this value
reaches the number of minutes programmed in the
40
SURGE PROTECTION SCREEN
count window, the number of surge events in the oldest
minute is discarded from the surge window count and
the surge events in the most recent minute is added.
This provides a rolling count of the total surge events
occurring in the count window minutes. This value is
reset when the chiller shuts down.
Surge Window Count
Displays the number of surge events that have oc-
curred in the last 1 to 5 minutes, as programmed with
the count window setpoint. If the chiller has been run-
ning for less than the count window minutes, this is the
number of surge events that have occurred within the
last number of minutes displayed as the surge window
time. The count is cleared when the chiller shuts down.
Surge Detected (LED)
Illuminates for 5 seconds each time a surge is detected
by the surge protection feature. This LED does not il-
luminate in response to surge events detected by the
compressor VSD adaptive capacity control (ACC)
board.
