SRS Air Bags
A ir B aes w ith out Seat Belts:
D epen ding only on the a ir bags f o r protection durin g an acciden t is dangerous.
Alone, a ir bags m ay n o t p re v en t serious injuries. The appropriate a ir bags can be
expected to inflate only durin g a fron tal, side or n ear-frontal collision o f a t least
m oderate fo rce. Vehicle occupants sh ould alw ays w ear seat belts.
C hild in the Front Seat:
P lacing a child, 12 yea rs o r under, in the fr o n t sea t is dangerous. The child could be
hit by a deploying a ir bag a n d be seriously injured o r even killed. A sleeping child is
m ore likely to lean a g a in st the d o o r a n d be hit by the side a ir bag in a m oderate, right-
side collision. W henever possible, alw ays secure a child 12 yea rs a n d under on the
rea r seat w ith an appropriate child-restrain t system f o r the c h ild 's age a n d size.
Rear-Facing C hild-R estraint System :
R ear-facing child-restrain t system s on the fr o n t seat are particu larly dangerous.
The ch ild-restrain t system can be h it by a deploying a ir bag a n d m oved violently
backw ard resu lting in serious injury or death to the child. N E V E R use a rear-facin g
child-restrain t system in the fr o n t seat w ith an a ir bag th at c ould deploy.
Seating Position w ith Front A ir Bags:
Sitting too close to the a ir bag storage com partm ents o r p la cin g hands o r f e e t on them
is extrem ely dangerous. Front A ir bags inflate with g rea t fo rc e a n d speed. Serious
injuries could occu r i f som eone is too close. The d river sh ou ld alw ays hold onto only
the rim o f the steering wheel. The fr o n t seat p a ssen g er sh ould keep both f e e t on the
floor. F ron t seat occupants sh ou ld a d ju st th eir seats as f a r back as p o ssib le and
alw ays sit upright a g a in st the seatbacks w ith seat belts worn properly.
