Engine Exhaust (Carbon Monoxide)

C arbon M onoxide:
E ngine exhaust is dangerous. This gas contains carbon m onoxide (CO), w hich is
colorless, odorless, a n d poisonous. W hen inhaled, it can cause loss o f consciousness
a n d death. I f you sm ell exhaust gas inside y o u r vehicle, keep a ll w indow s fu lly open
a n d contact an A uthorized M azda D ealer im m ediately.
E xhaust Gas in E nclosed Area:
R un ning the engine inside an enclosed area, such a s a garage, is dangerous. E xh au st
gas, which contains po iso n o u s carbon m onoxide, could easily enter the cabin. L oss o f
consciousness o r even death could occur. D o n 't ru n the engine w hen inside an
enclosed area.
Idling w ith the Windows Closed:
E xh au st g a s is dangerous. W hen y o u r vehicle is stopped w ith the w indow s closed and
the engine ru nn in g f o r a long tim e in an open area, exhaust gas, w hich contains
p oison ou s carbon m onoxide, could enter the cabin. L oss o f consciousness o r even
death could occur. O pen the w indow s o r a dju st the heating or cooling system to draw
fre sh air.
Snow Blocking the E xhaust Gas:
R un ning the engine when a vehicle is stopped in deep snow is dangerous. The exhaust
p ip e cou ld be blocked by the snow, allow ing exhaust gas to enter the cabin. B ecause
exhaust g a s contains p oison ou s carbon m onoxide, anyone in the cabin could be
injured or killed. C lear the snow fro m underneath a n d a ro u n d y o u r vehicle before
starting the engine.
