Changing a Flat Tire

N O T E
I f the follow ing occurs w hile driving, it
could indicate a flat tire.
• Steering becom es difficult.
• T he vehicle begins to vibrate
excessively.
• T he vehicle pulls in one direction.
I f you have a flat tire, drive slowly to a
level spot that is w ell off the road and out
of the way o f traffic to change the tire.
Stopping in traffic or on the shoulder o f a
busy road is dangerous.
& WARNING
Jacking a Vehicle:
C hanging a tire is dangerous i f not
done properly. The vehicle can slip o ff
the jack a n d seriously injure
som eone.
Be sure to fo llo w the directions f o r
changin g a tire, a n d never g e t un der a
vehicle th at is su pported only by a
jack.
P assenger in Vehicle Su pported by a
Jack:
A llow ing som eone to rem ain in a
vehicle su pported by a jack is
dangerous. The occu pant could cause
the vehicle to f a ll resu ltin g in serious
injury. N ever a llo w anyone inside a
vehicle su pported by jack.

In Case of an Emergency
Flat Tire
N O T E
M ake sure the jack is w ell lubricated
before using it.
1. P ark on a level surface off the right-of-
way and firm ly set the parking brake.
2. P u t a vehicle w ith an autom atic
transaxle in park (P), a m anual
transaxle in reverse (R), and turn off
the engine.
3. Turn on the hazard w arning flasher.
4. H ave everyone get out o f the vehicle
and away from the vehicle and traffic.
5. R em ove the jack, tool, and spare tire
(page 7-3).
6. B lock the w heel diagonally opposite
the flat tire. W hen blocking a front
w heel, place the block in front o f the
tire. W hen blocking a rear w heel, place
the block behind the tire.
