7.1.2.Pedestrianwarningwithcitybrakingfunction
Thepedestrianwarningwithcitybrakingfunction(DaytimepedestriandetectionOEZN2)isdesigned
topreventpossiblecollisionswithpedestriansinurbanareasorreducetheeffectsofanaccident.The
systemwarnsofapossiblecollisionwithpedestriansfromaspeedofapproximately10 km/huptoa
maximumspeedof60 km/handassiststhedriverwithabrakeinterventionshortlybeforeacollision.
TheKAFASstereocameracapturesthesceneinfrontofthevehicleanddetectspedestriansinthe
fieldofviewusingimageprocessing.

Basedonthecalculatedpositions,distancesandthemovementofthedetectedpedestrians,anacute
warningisissuedincriticalsituations.Anearlywarningisnotavailableforthepedestrianwarningwith
citybrakingfunction(OEZN2).
Withanacutewarningthevehicleisdeceleratedbyroughly4 m/s².Thedurationofthebrake
interventionislimitedtoapproximately1.5 seconds.Additionaldangersforthetrafficbehindare
thereforeavoided.
7.2.Warningandbrakingfunction
Theoperatingprincipleofthecollisionwarningisbasedonadetectionandwarningalgorithm.
Machinevisiondetectspedestriansandvehiclesinthedetectionrangeofthecamera.Ifthereisa
riskofacollision,awarningsymbolisshownintheinstrumentcluster(KOMBI),orintheHead-Up
DisplayforvehicleswiththeHead-UpDisplaystandardequipment(OE 610).Thewarningfunctionis
dividedintotwostages.Thenextprobablemovementofanobjectisdeterminedbasedonthecurrent
movementofthedetectedobjectand,takingintoaccountthemovementoftheobject,acollision
riskisidentified.Ifasituationisevaluatedascriticalbythewarningalgorithm,awarningisissuedand
brakingisintroducedbasedonamultistagewarningconcept.Thewarningsandbrakeinterventions
differforpedestriansandvehicles.
