TheactivelateralcontrolfunctionwithdataevaluationoftheKAFASstereocameraisimplemented
withtheassistanceofthelanemarkingsidentifiedontheleftandright.
Inorderforthesystemtobeactivated,twolaneboundarylinesmustbedetected.Belowaspeedof
approximately70 km/havehicledrivingaheadinthesamelaneissufficienttoactivatethesystem.
ThesystemisputinStandbymodeifthemarginalconditionsarenotsatisfied(e.g.handsnoton
steeringwheel,lanetoonarrowordazzlingofKAFASstereocamera).Onceallmarginalconditions
havebeenmet,thesystemisre-enabledautomatically.
Toactivatethesystem,thespeedofthevehicleisanotherinputquantitythatisevaluated.Thesystem
usesthesevaluestodecidewhichfunctionisenabled.Asmentionedabove,thethresholdvaluesare
setasfollows:

Thetrafficjamassistantcanbeenabledwithinaspeedrangeof0to70 km/h.
•
Thelanecontrolassistantcanbeenabledwithinaspeedrangeof70 to210 km/h.
22.1.3.Lanechange
Foralanechangetobeascomfortableaspossible,thesteeringandlanecontrolassistantincluding
trafficjamassistantisputsilentlyintoStandbymodewhentheturnindicatorisactivatedand
reactivatesitselfautomaticallyoncetheturnindicatorisbackinitsinitialpositionandalanechange
hasoccurred.
22.1.4.Functionlogic
Themainfunctionlogicofthelateralguidanceisimplementedintheoptionalequipmentsystem(SAS)
controlunit.
ThemajorityofthedataforthefunctionisprovidedbytheKAFASstereocamera,wherealgorithmsfor
thelaneandobjectdetectionrun.
Vehicledynamicsdata,suchasthedrivingspeed,wheelspeeds,yawrate,steeringangle,lateral
acceleration,longitudinalacceleration,etc.,isprovidedbytherestofthevehiclenetworkviaaFlexRay
orCANconnection.
Atargettrajectory(alsoknownasapathcurve)iscalculatedintheoptionalequipmentsystem(SAS)
controlunit.Thisisusedtodeterminewhetherasteeringcorrectionisrequired.
