Choosing a

IFC Networking—Metasys Intelligent Fire Network
Every FN node needs a Media Interface Board (MIB, MIB-OWS)
to physically connect to the FN. IFC panels and the INAs are
connected to the FN with a MIB. The Fire OWS and Fire-Net
NCM are connected to the FN with an MIB-OWS, which is a standard
MIB attached to an ISA bus interface board.
Since the FN can be made up of twisted pair copper wire, fiber optic cable,
or both, the MIB and MIB-OWS provide the following medium choices:
• two twisted pair wire ports: models MIB-W and MIB-OWS-W
• two fiber optic cable ports: model MIB-F and MIB-OWS-F
• one twisted pair wire and one fiber optic cable port: models MIB-WF
and MIB-OWS-WF
FN network node connections and MIBs are explained in the following
sections.
