Chapter 2. Eclipse Edge System Description

possible interference and resultant degraded link performance.

Eclipse Edge Management

Edge, like other Eclipse products, is managed using Portal and ProVision. There are
no manual controls.
• Portal is a PC based configuration and diagnostics tool for Eclipse. Connection to the
IDUspe is via Ethernet cable.
• ProVision is the Eclipse network element manager. ProVision also supports other
Aviat products, including legacy products.
Portal is supported in the Eclipse system software, such that once installed on a PC,
it automatically downloads support from the radio as needed to ensure Portal always
matches the version of system software supplied, or subsequently downloaded in any
radio upgrade.
Portal has the look and feel of a Windows environment with screen-based views and
prompts for all configuration and diagnostic attributes.
ProVision is the network element manager for Eclipse and other Aviat radios. It is
installed on a Windows or Solaris server, typically at a network operating center, and
communicates with network elements using standard LAN/WAN IP addressing and
routing; each radio has its own unique IP address.

Eclipse Edge Compatibility

The Eclipse Edge IDUspe and ODUspe are not over-air compatible with other Eclipse
IDUs, RACs and ODUs; Edge spe elements must be used at both ends of the link.
However, Eclipse Edge is user-interface compatible with other Eclipse devices
through its Ethernet and PDH ports.
