Explanation
Use only the Edge industrial-grade ODU
cable, complete with its weatherized RJ-45
connector for connection to the Edge ODU.
Any other type of connector / cable assembly may
not provide adequate weatherproofing and lead to
early failure.
For the industrial grade Cat5e ODU cable and
the supplied shielded RJ-45 connectors (with
strain relief), always use the crimp tool
designed for these connectors. A
recommended crimp tool is available from Aviat as
Part No. 008-311001-001.
For the standard grade Cat5e jumper cable, an
industry-standard RJ-45 crimp tool is required.
Take great care when removing the jacket to keep
the outer shield intact.
The route chosen must provide physical protection
for the cable (protection against accidental
damage).
The cable must be positioned so that there is
unimpeded access to the tower and to services on
the tower.
Use a route which minimizes potential for damage
to the cable jacket and avoids excessive cable
re-bending.
Keep cable clear of sharp edges
Rod support kits or similar must be used across
unsupported sections of the cable run so that the
cable cannot flex in the wind.
Ensure the minimum bend radius for the cable is
not exceeded.
Ensure the ODU connector is firmly hand tightened
onto the ODU and weatherproofed. For
weatherproofing instructions, see
Weatherproofing on page 19
Do not attach the ODU cable ground wire to the
ODU until after the ODU connector has been
weatherproofed.
