How can I name National Instruments serial ports COM1, COM2,
COM3, or COM4?
Complete the following steps:
(Windows 2000)
1.
Right-click My Computer and select Properties. Under the
Hardware tab, select Device Manager.
2.
Verify that no local ports are already assigned to the COM number(s)
you want to use. If they are, use the following procedure to reassign
these ports:
a.
Right-click the local COM port you want to reassign from the list
of installed serial ports.
b.
From the Port settings tab, click Advanced....
c.
Change the COM port number to a new value.
3.
After you reassign all local ports, close the Device Manager.
4.
Select Start»Settings»Control Panel»NI Ports.
5.
Select the NI-Serial port you want to rename.
6.
Click Settings.
7.
Change the COM port number to a new value.
Complete the following steps:
(Windows NT)
1.
Select Start»Settings»Control Panel»Ports.
2.
Verify that no local ports are already assigned to the COM number(s)
you want to use. If they are, use the following procedure to reassign
these ports:
a.
Select the local COM port you want to reassign from the list of
installed serial ports.
b.
Click Settings.
c.
Click Advanced.
d.
Change the COM port number to a new value.
3.
After you reassign all local ports, close Ports.
4.
Select Start»Settings»Control Panel»NI Ports.
5.
Select the NI-Serial port you want to rename.
6.
Click Settings.
7.
Change the COM port number to a new value.
