Chapter 7 Simultaneous Therapy
Simultaneous therapy means the treatment with ultrasound and stimulation current at the same time. The
ultrasonic transducer is one pole of the stimulation current circuit, a plate electrode the other one.
It is advisable to use a plate electrode of minimum size EF50 as neutral electrode. The neutral electrode is
plugged into the socket No.1 (anode of channel I) of the patient lead (refer to
tachment
on page 9).
Make sure that there is enough space between the plate electrode and the transducer. If there is too little
space, an error might be the result.
To ensure good contact for both stimulation and ultrasound therapy you must use a (electrically) conduct-
ive ultrasound gel.
Important
Make sure you constantly keep moving the transducer on the area of treatment (dynamic
treatment)! Avoid using the transducer at one spot for a longer time (static treatment); this
form of treatment might lead to damage to the tissue!
NOTICE
If the transducer is lifted during treatment, the stimulation current will automatically be re-
duced to zero; it ensures that both therapy modes - ultrasound and stimulation current - are
always applied simultaneously. As soon as the transducer is put on again the stimulation cur-
rent will also rise again automatically.
In simultaneous treatment, the instrument is automatically switched to a mixed mode of con-
stant current and constant voltage (refer to
unpleasant current sensations when the contact between skin and transducer is interrupted.
How to Perform a Simultaneous Treatment
(1)
Select the desired transducer and plug it into the Ultrasound Lead Connector <10>.
(2)
Apply some ultrasound gel on the area of treatment.
(3)
Select the desired current mode and set the parameters for stimulation current therapy.
(4)
Select the symbol (3) for the ultrasound channel in the upper status bar and press the Data Selector
<2> .
