clearance between the tab at the bottom of the out­
board shoe and the caliper abutment.
8. Using a 1/4 x 1 x 2-1/2 inch metal bar to bridge the
caliper cutout, clamp the outboard shoe to the caliper
using a " C" clamp.
Use a clean

tamination of the brake lining and do not use
excessive force which could deform the lining
face.
9. Using vice-grip pliers, as- shown in Figure 21 bend
both upper ears of the outboard shoe over the caliper
until the clearance between the shoe ear and the
caliper (measured at both the edge and side of the
caliper) is 0.005 inch or less.
Once a shoe ear has been bent it should

10. Remove the

Make sure that the brake hose is not

twisted or kinked.
11. Start the caliper to mounting bracket bolts through
the sleeves in the inboard caliper ears and the
mounting bracket, making sure that the ends of the
bolts pass under the retaining ears on the inboard
shoe.
12. Push the mounting bolts through to engage the holes
in the outboard ears. Then thread the mounting bolts
into the mounting bracket.
13. Torque the mounting bolts to 30-40 ft. lbs.
14. Reinstall the front wheel and lower the vehicle.
15. Add brake fluid to the master cylinder reservoir to
bring the fluid level up to within 1/4 inch of the top.
Before moving the vehicle, pump the

brake pedal several times to make sure that it
is firm. Do not move vehicle until a firm pedal
is obtained.
