All steering coupling and steering gear
NOTE:
to frame fasteners are important attaching parts
in that they could affect the performance of vital
components and systems, and/or could result
in major repair expense. They must be replaced
with one of the same part number or with an
equivalent part if replacement becomes nec
essary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser
quality or substitute design. Torque values must
be used as specified during reassembly to assure
proper retention of this part.
1. Install the flexible coupling onto the steering gear
wormshaft, aligning the flat on the shaft with the flat
in the coupling. Install and torque the coupling
clamp bolt.
Push the coupling onto the wormshaft
NOTE:
until the coupling reinforcement bottoms against
the end of the worm.
2. Install the special bolt into the split clamp and
torque to specifications.
The bolt must pass through the shaft

flexible coupling bolts into the proper holes in the
steering shaft flange.
Install and tighten the steering gear to frame bolts.
Install the coupling to flange bolt nuts and washers
and torque to specifications. Be sure to maintain a
coupling to flange dimension of .250" to .375". The
coupling alignment pins should be centered in the
flange slots.

spacers on the alignment pins which aid in cen
tering the pins in the flange openings and also
serve to maintain the correct coupling to flange
dimension (fig. 10). Be sure the spacers are
fully installed on the pins.
Under no circumstances should the

vehicle be driven until the plastic spacers have
been removed from the locking pins. Fashion a
hook out of heavy gauge wire and remove the
