Chapter 7 NovAtel Firmware and Software
Download the most recent versions of the NovAtel firmware and receiver software from the
Downloads section of www.novatel.com/support/search/.
NovAtel Software
NovAtel software applications run on a computer and are used to interact with NovAtel receiv-
ers. The following software is available from the NovAtel website:
NovAtel Connect (a GUI interface)

Convert (converts receiver data logs into different formats)
l
NovAtel software is available in Windows compatible and Unix compatible versions. For inform-
ation about using NovAtel Connect or Convert, refer to the help system available within the
application.
NovAtel Connect version 2.0 or greater is required for the SMART2. Download the
latest NovAtel Connect software and documentation from
www.novatel.com/novatel-connect.
NovAtel Firmware
NovAtel firmware runs on NovAtel receivers. It provides the features and functionality available
on the receiver.
The firmware download file contains:
Firmware *.shex file

WinLoad software utility

7.1 Firmware Updates and Model Upgrades
A local NovAtel dealer can provide all the information needed to upgrade or update a receiver.

7.1.1 Firmware Updates
Firmware updates are firmware releases that include fixes and enhancements to the receiver
functionality. Firmware updates are released on the NovAtel web site as they become available.
Firmware upgrades can be performed using the WinLoad utility, SoftLoad commands, NovAtel
Connect or with a custom loader application. Contact NovAtel Customer Support

7.1.2 Model Upgrades
Model upgrades enable purchased receiver features.
