Chapter 2 SMART2 Installation

When the appropriate equipment is selected, complete the following steps to set up and begin
using the SMART2.
1. Mount the SMART2 receiver. Refer to Mounting and Orientating the SMART2 on the next page
for mounting details.
2. Connect the NovAtel interface cable, or custom wiring harness, to the COM and Power port
on the back of the SMART2 (J1). Refer to SMART2 Connector Overview on page 12 for details
of the connector. Refer to SMART Antennas Interface Cable (Optional Accessory) on page 73
for cable details.
3. Connect other GNSS system components using the output lines.
4. Connect the SMART2 to other GNSS system components, such as a computer or data ter-
minal, using the communication ports.

5. Connect the power leads on the interface cable to the power supply.
Ensure a 5 A slow blow fuse is incorporated in the power wiring. Refer to SMART Antennas
Interface Cable (Optional Accessory) on page 73 and SMART Antenna Additional Equipment
Required on page 19 for fuse recommendations.

Refer to SMART2 LED on page 12 for details of SMART2 LED states.
2.1 Power Supply Requirements for SMART Antennas
SMART Antennas require a power supply that provides:
a voltage in the range of +7 to +30 VDC, current consumption 500 mA

at least 15 W of power (SMART2 typical use: 2.5 W)
