Rear Panel Indicators

General

The printed circuit board used in the Series 4400 console
is divided into functional sections. These functions in-
clude Main Panel, Display Panel, Limits Panel, Load
Sensor Conditioner, and the like, and they operate more
or less independently of one another. The functional sec-
tions are monitored by LEDs and display panel indica-
tors, and the unique combination of LEDs that are lit and
the results displayed on the front panel help to pinpoint
faults.
There are certain types of failures that may cause un-
usual operation of the LEDs and displays on the console
front panel. These failures could occur in the CPU or
Front Panel sections of the circuit board; the condition
of the latter is not reported by the Self Test result. If er-
ratic operation of the front panel occurs, or normal opera-
tion is prevented due to a failure reported by the Self
Test, then the state of the rear panel indicators (LEDs)
can be used for further diagnosis.
The LEDs are visible on the on the rear of the console
though window openings in the rear cover. There are
three sets of indicators; one for the main console circuit
board, one for the Strain Sensor Conditioner board when
it is present, and one for the IEEE-488 Computer Inter-
face board when it is present. The following sections de-
scribe the function of these indicators, and Figure 8-1
shows their location.
