Baseline drift. Never mix patient electrode types or brands. Dissimilar
metals or other incompatibilities may cause considerable baseline drift
and may increase trace recovery time after defibrillation.
Electrolyte
NOTE: Watches or jewelry may be damaged by contact
with electrolyte.
Cardiac Science Corporation recommends using Signa gel
with reusable sensors because it provides excellent conductivity between
the skin and sensor.
Reusable sensors (Welsh bulbs and limb plates) must be kept clean. Dirt or
electrolyte build-up may degrade ECG quality:
• Wash after each use (use a mild dish soap if necessary)
• Never use a metallic pad to clean plates and Welsh bulbs (to
avoid damaging the plating)
• Discard if corroded.
Applying limb plates
Patient skin irritation. Limb Plates may contain nickel, a material that can
cause skin irritation. Monitor the electrode site and, if irritation occurs,
use an alternate electrode.
1. Expose the arms and legs of the patient.
2. Connect sensor straps to the "ears" of the limb plates.
