2.2.7 Applying Power

Before you apply power to the switch, inspect the installation thoroughly. Verify
that all cables are installed correctly. Check cable routing to ensure that a cable
will not be damaged or create a safety hazard. Be sure all equipment is mounted
properly and securely.
There are no user serviceable parts inside the CrossFire 8720 Switch. Internal
upgrades or service should be performed by qualified personnel only.
Warning: The CrossFire 8720 Switch does not have an on/off switch. Power is on
when the unit is plugged into a power source. Unplug the power cord before you
work on a system that does not have an on/off switch.
Warning: When installing the unit, the ground connection must always be made
first and disconnected last.
Warning: This equipment is intended to be grounded. Ensure that the host is
grounded during normal use.
Warning: Do not touch the power supply when the power cord is connected. Line
voltages are present within the power supply when the power cord is connected.
After reading and heeding the above warnings, power-on your equipment:
1. Ensure that you are using the correct power source and that the power cord
complies with national regulations.
2. Plug the female end of the power cord into the AC power connector on the
back panel of the CrossFire 8720 Switch (see figure 2).
3. Plug the male end of the power cords into a properly grounded electrical outlet.
4. Verify that at least one of the power LEDs (see figure 1) is on. If a LED is off,
the corresponding power supply is not present or inoperable. If the outlet is
working, but the LEDs are not on, see chapter 4, Troubleshooting.
5. When the switch powers on, observe the self-test diagnostic that the unit runs
for approximately 1-2 minutes. The Fault LED blinks for the duration of the
test, then turns off when the self-test is complete.
6. After the diagnostics, the front panel LEDs should be illuminated according to
the status of the unit's configuration. See About the Switch on page 1.
Note: If the switch fails to power up correctly or if it encounters any unrecoverable
error, the Fault LED will be on - see chapter 4, Troubleshooting.
Note: Power supply units CrossFire 8729 are hot-swappable.
