Connecting Devices to the Ethernet Ports
Note: If you intend to use building wiring (in-the-wall wiring) to connect devices
to the Ethernet ports on the switch, skip to Connecting Devices to the Ethernet
Ports Using Building Wiring on page 15. Otherwise:
1. If you have an expansion module (UEM), follow the installation instructions
shipped with the UEM, then go to the next step in this procedure.
2. Following the CrossFire 8720 Cabling Chart provided by your network
administrator, connect the cables between the switch and other devices as
illustrated in figure 3. It illustrates an RJ-45 connector on each end.
3. If the switch is rack-mounted, thread the switch end of the cables through a
cable management bracket, if one is present on your rack.
4. To ease troubleshooting, label each end of each cable with the room location of
the device at the other end, a unique cable identification number, the MAC
address of the connected device, and the number of the port to which the cable
is attached. See Applying Power on page 16.
