4.3 Hardware Diagnostic Tests

4.3.1 Testing the Switch by Resetting It

If you suspect that the switch is not operating correctly, you can reset the switch to
test its hardware and software. To reset a switch:

Cycle the power by unplugging and plugging in again the power cord.

Press the "Reset" button on the front of the switch.
Both actions cause the switch to perform its power-on self-test, which almost
always will resolve any temporary operational problems. Note that the reset
processes also cause statistics counters to be reset to zero, and cause the System
Up Time timer to reset to zero. The switch configuration will remain unchanged. If
you wish to execute extended built-in self-test, select it via a console command or
