4.4 Checking Console Messages
After the switch reset some useful diagnostic messages may be displayed on the
console screen (see Using the Console Interface on page 24 for instructions on
how to connect a console to the switch).
4.4.1 Testing Switch-to-Device Network Communications
You can perform a Ping communication tests to verify that the network is
operating correctly between the switch and any connected device that can respond
correctly to the Ping.
These tests can be performed through the switch console interface from a terminal
connected to the switch or through a Telnet connection, or from the switch's web-

4.4.2 Testing End-to-End Network Communications
Both the switch and the cabling can be tested by running an end-to-end
communications test – a test that sends known data from one network device to
another through the switch. For example, if you have two end nodes on the
network you can run a Ping test through the switch to verify that the entire
communication path between the two end nodes is functioning correctly.
4.4.3 Restoring the Factory Default Configuration
Sometimes it is necessary to return the switch configuration to the factory default
settings. This process clears any passwords, resets the statistics counters to zero,
performs a complete self-test and reboots the switch into its factory default
configuration including a default IP address.
To execute the factory default reset, press the "Default" button on the front of the
switch using a pointed object.
