3.2 Using Web-Based Management

3.2.1 Choosing a Browser

The selected browser should support the JVM 1.1 specification. Microsoft Internet
Explorer 5.0 and Netscape Navigator 4.5b1 are recommended.
If you use Internet Explorer 4.x you must adjust its security settings:
1. Select Internet Options from the View menu.
2. Click the Security tab.
3. Select Custom, then click the Settings button.
4. In the Security Settings window, scroll down to Java permissions and select
Custom.
5. The Java Custom Settings... button appears in the lower left corner of the
window. Click it, then click the Edit Permissions tab.
6. Select Run in sandbox and, under Access to all Network Addresses, select
the Enable checkbox.
7. Click OK.

3.2.2 Connecting a Management Station

1. Attach your management station (running the selected web browser) to a LAN
connected to the switch.
2. Ensure that there is communication between the station and the switch. It is
required that IP address parameters are set correctly on both the station and the
switch. Factory IP settings for the switch are:
IP address: 192.0.2.1
IP mask: 255.255.255.0
To change these settings, refer to the IP Switching sections of the Olicom
CrossFire 8720 Fast Ethernet Layer 3 Switch Reference Guide.

3.2.3 To Start a Web Management Session

1. In the web browser's address window type:
http://x.y.z.w/ (where "x.y.z.w" is the IP address of the switch)
and press Enter.
2. When contact is made, the browser downloads a switch manager application
from the switch and runs it on your workstation. On the login screen, enter the
SNMP community name and click OK.
