3.6.3 Console Management Features

Console management offers the following features:
•
Switch configuration: Provides access to parameters that control the switch's
operation, including IP switching parameters, Spanning Tree, VLAN and
CrossLink configuration, network management parameters, console/serial link
parameters. For a complete list of these options, refer to Configuring the
Switch section in the Olicom CrossFire 8720 Fast Ethernet Layer 3 Switch
Reference Guide.

Switch reboot: Triggers a reboot, equivalent in action to cycling the power or
pressing the Reset button. The software initiated reboot gives some additional
options, like skipping the power-on self test.

Status and counters: Provides access to display screens informing about switch
and port status, network activity, the address tables, and Spanning Tree
operation.
•
Event Log: Enables you to read progress and error messages that are useful for
checking and troubleshooting switch operation.
•
Diagnostics: Provides access to screens for testing Ping connectivity and
listing the current switch configuration, and to menu items for executing
system management, monitoring, and troubleshooting commands.
•
Image download: Enables you to download a new software version to the
switch.
•
Logout: Terminates the console session and disconnects Telnet access to the
switch (if it has been used).
