If you have received your equipment before your site is fully prepared, after
inspection, you should keep all of the components in the original shipping
containers and store them in a physically and environmentally safe place.
When you are ready to begin the installation, refer to chapter 2, Installation, for
important instructions and directions.
2.2.3 Other Materials You Will Need
To install the unit in a rack, prepare:
•
A rack inventory chart and a cabling chart from your network administrator.
•
The supplied set of screws, nuts and washers along with the Allen key tool.
•
A properly grounded power cord.
To install the unit on a surface (such as a tabletop), prepare:
•
A cabling chart from your network administrator.
•
The four supplied adhesive rubber feet.
•
A properly grounded power cord.
2.2.4 Installing a Universal Expansion Module
In order to install a Universal Expansion Module (UEM) if you have received one,
follow the steps described in the Quick Reference Guide supplied with the UEM.
2.2.5 Mounting Hints
The CrossFire 8720 Switch can be mounted in a standard 19-inch rack or cabinet,
or can be mounted on any flat surface such as a tabletop. The installation area
should be near a power source and should have enough room around the front and
back panels for cabling and access to controls.
Warning: Only qualified personnel should install or replace this equipment.
Rack or Cabinet Mounting
Caution: You must follow these instructions to ensure that the switch and nearby
or related equipment are mechanically stable.
Note: Only fixed brackets are supplied with these units. If you want to install a
sliding pullout mount, you will need to provide the extra mounting hardware.
To mount the switch in a rack or cabinet:
1. If you install the equipment in a closed or multi-unit rack, observe the
environmental guidelines in Preparing for Installation on page 7.
