select a rectangle, but the region will include all the triangles the rectangle touches and will not
look like a rectangle.
There is a different function that solves this problem. The Slice 3D Data function in the Draw &
Measure menu, and in the toolbar ( ), is very similar to the Select region function. However, it
actually 'slices' the triangles – creates new triangles – so that the selected region closely
matches your selection. Use this function to specify a region that matches your outline.
Insert High-res Photo
Having done the preparation, the final step is simple. Select Insert High-res Photo from the Edit
menu. The program will take the appropriate part of the photo that matches the selected region
in the model and apply it instead of whatever color was there previously – and at full resolution.

12.3 Making a Photo Hotspot

It can be valuable to 'attach' a photo to a model without replacing the original data. We call this
creating a hotspot. Note that this function requires that the photo be aligned. (Unaligned photos
can be attached to any annotation, a Landmark point for example, in the edit annotation
window.) After a hotspot is created, double-clicking on the hotspot will make the image open in
its own window.
The first step is to align the photo without applying the final 'Color' step – just as described in
the previous section.
Then, select the photo file – either by selecting the window or by selecting the file in the scene
tree. Next, select Make Hotspot from Photo in the Edit menu. This will create a listing under
HotSpots in the scene tree for this photo. It will also create an outline in the model
corresponding to the image location. Double-clicking on that outline will open the photo
window. You can change the size of the hotspot outline using the arrow cursor. Ctrl and you can
select and move any of the four corners of the hotspot. You can also edit the hotspot's
annotation in the usual way. Remember to save the scene to save the Hotspot.

12.4 Deleting Data

There are often reasons to delete data from a model. A scan might have gone beyond the area of
interest, e.g. out a doorway or through a window. There can also be erroneous data in a scene
caused by reflections. SceneVision provides several functions for deleting selected data from a
model.
Deleting a Region Selection
The standard way to select data is with the Select Region (Visible) button or the Slice 3D Data
button. Once selected, you can delete the data either with the Delete key on the keyboard, or
Delete Selected Data from the Edit menu. This action can be undone with the Undo selection in
the Edit menu.
