Scanning Speed
The scanning speed (labeled Speed (rev/s)) specifies the number of mirror revolutions per
second, which is equivalent to the number of vertical scans per second. The minimum speed is 4
revolutions per second for the red laser; 8 for the IR laser. The maximum speed is 16
revolutions per second. This setting effects scanning time directly – a scan set at 8
revolutions/second will take significantly less time than a scan set at 4 revolutions/second
(though not exactly one half the time). Note that the density setting determines what speeds are
possible. For example, at 10 samples per degree the mirror can go no faster than 10
revolutions/sec.
The following table gives approximate acquisition times for several settings.
Max Range
The Max Range setting is used to limit the target range for the scan. A smaller setting improves
the accuracy of the laser range finder (slightly) but limits the range to that distance. You should
choose the smallest number that is definitely larger than the greatest distance you want to scan.
The Max range settings vary depending on the samples/degree and Speed. Several different
settings are shown in the table below.

Note: The DeltaSphere system with the Infrared laser will not operate at fewer
than 8 revolutions per second.

and the time to scan. Changing the Vertical Field of View changes the size of the
file but has no effect on the scanning time.
