range file. It does not copy the corresponding points to the color file (they would not align
correctly). To create corresponding points, select a point either in the range window or in the
Correspondence Points folder in the Scene Tree. Then create a matching point in the image
window. It will be numbered appropriately. You do not need to use all of the points copied. You
can either delete them or leave them unmatched. They will not be used in the alignment. You
can add additional points in the usual way.

10.2 Masking in Color Alignment

There are times when you only want to add a portion of a photo to range data instead of the
entire photo. For example, part of a photo may be under- or over-exposed, but you still require
the good part of the photo to be used in the scene. SceneVision provides the ability to 'mask' a
part of an image file so that it is not used in the color alignment process.
The mask buttons become available only when the image data window is active (selected).
There are eight different buttons available for masking operations. These will be described as
we go through a typical masking operation.
Mask
To begin any masking operation, select the Mask button. This simply toggles masking. (If it's
off it will turn on; if on it will turn off. Turning this off does not disable the blending mask
described above.)
After selecting Mask you select the region you would like to 'mask out' – e.g. not use. You do
this with the standard data region selection function ( ). Select this button, then Ctrl and draw
line segments around the region you are masking. You'll typically want to zoom in and select
this region carefully. The region selected will appear with red cross-hatching as shown in Figure
56. You can always undo a region selection by choosing Unselect Data in Window in the Select
menu.
Add Selection
Once you've selected a region you add that section to the mask – in effect, masking it out – by
selecting the Add Sel button. You can add multiple regions to a mask by selecting a new region
and again selecting Add Sel.

Note: Every image has an associated mask. This mask is used to blend the image
with overlapping images applied to the range data – and its use is typically
hidden from the user. These mask operations modify the standard mask and
affect the application of color to the range image.
