Removing the water pump and shift
rod
1. Remove the water pump housing 1, col-
lar 2, spacer 3, washer 4, wave wash-
er 5, washer 6 and impeller 7.
2. Remove the Woodruff key 8.
3. Remove the outer plate cartridge 9,
gasket 0 and dowels q.
4. Set the gear shift to the neutral position
at the lower unit. Make sure that the shift
rod is in the neutral position using a spe-
cial service tool.

Checking the water pump and shift
rod
1. Check the water pump housing. Replace
if there is deformation.
2. Check the impeller and insert cartridge.
Replace if cracked or worn.
3. Check the Woodruff key 1 and the
groove a on the drive shaft. Replace if
worn.

4. Check the shift rod. Replace if cracked or
worn.
