Checking the lower unit for air leak-
age
cC
Do not over pressurize the lower unit, oth-
erwise the oil seals may be damaged.
1. Remove the check screw 1, and then
install the special service tool.
Leakage tester: 90890-06840
2. Apply the specified pressure to check
that the pressure is maintained in the
lower unit for at least 10 seconds.
NOTE:
Cover the check hole with a rag when remov-
ing the special service tool from the lower
unit.
Lower unit holding pressure:
70 kPa (0.7 kgf/cm
3. If the pressure drops below specification,
check the drive shaft, propeller shaft oil
seals, shift rod oil seal, and gasket of
drain screw for damage.

Checking the propeller

1. Check the propeller blades for cracks and
splines for damage or wear. Replace if
necessary.

General

Checking the anode

1. Check the anode and trim tab. Clean if
there are scales, grease, or oil.

Do not oil, grease, or paint the anodes or
the trim tab, otherwise they will be ineffec-
tive.
NOTE:
If it is necessary to disassemble the outboard
motor to check an anode, refer to the applic-
able disassembly procedure in this manual.
2. Replace the anodes or trim tab if exces-
sively eroded. Also check the ground lead
together.
