14. TROUBLESHOOTING
If the performance of the machine becomes unsatisfactory, first check to confirm that the needle has been correctly
installed and that threading has been done correctly.
Please check the following points before calling for repairs or service.
If the following suggestions do not solve the problem, turn off the machine power supply and contact your nearest
Brother service center.
Turn off the power switch and disconnect the power cord before carrying out troubleshooting, otherwise the
machine will operate if the treadle is pressed by mistake, which could result in injury.
* When using a clutch motor, the motor will keep turning even after the power is switched off as a result of
the motor's inertia. Wait until the motor stops fully before starting work.
Problem
1. Needle breaks
2. Skipped stitches
CAUTION
Is the thread tension too strong?
Adjust the thread tension.
Are the needle and looper installed in the correct positions?
Adjust the height of the needle and the position of the looper.
Is the position of the rear needle guard correct?
Adjust the position of the rear needle guard.
Is the position of the front needle guard correct?
(-0012, 0013, 00P3, 0014, 00P4, 0015 specifications)
Adjust the position of the front needle guard.
Caution
It is extremely dangerous to leave any pieces of broken needle
sticking in the material. If the needle breaks, search for all pieces
until the whole of the needle is found again.
Furthermore, we recommend that through steps be taken to ac-
count for such needles to comply with product liability regula-
tions.
Is the thread tension too strong or too weak?
Adjust the thread tension.
Is the needle tip bent or broken?
Replace the needle if it is bent or broken.
Are the needle and looper installed in the correct positions?
Adjust the height of the needle and the position of the looper.
Are the positions of each of the thread paths correct?
Adjust the positions of the thread paths while referring to "Adjusting
the thread tension".
Is the position of the rear needle guard correct?
Adjust the position of the rear needle guard.
Is the position of the front needle guard correct?
(-0012, 0013, 00P3, 0014, 00P4, 0015 specifications)
Adjust the position of the front needle guard.
Is the tip of the looper broken?
If the looper is damaged, smooth it with an oiled grindstone or re-
place it.
