Disconnecting AC Power from the Router

To disconnect AC power from the router, follow this procedure:
On the console or other management device connected to the Routing Engine,

enter CLI operational mode and issue the following command to shut down the
router software cleanly and preserve Routing Engine state information.
user@host> request system halt
NOTE: Wait until a message appears on the console confirming that the operating
system has halted.
For more information about the command, see the JUNOS System Basics and
Services Command Reference.
NOTE: The router might continue forwarding traffic for a few minutes after the
request system halt
command has been issued.
Press the power switch on each power supply faceplate to the

Unplug the power cord from each power supply.

NOTE: When multiple AC power supplies are installed in the chassis, each power
cord (one for each power supply) must be unplugged to disconnect power completely.

Connecting AC Power to the Router

To connect AC power to the router, follow this procedure:
Verify that the power supplies are fully inserted in the chassis and the

For each power supply, verify that the ends of the power cord are firmly plugged

source receptacle.
