SIMM Upgrade Path

The SIMM kits install into a SIMM socket on the system board. Different size SIMM up-
grade kits may be intermixed although SIMM sticks within a bank must be the same size
and speed. Each kit is inserted into a pair of sockets or bank. The system board's four
SIMM sockets are assigned as banks A and B (see Figure Section 3-18). The SIMM kits do
not have to be installed into the system board starting with the bank A (J25 and J26). The
standard 8 MB of memory is soldered onto the system board. Table Section 3-4 provides
SIMM configurations for the desktop computer. Table Section 3-6 provides valid SIMM
configurations for the minitower computer.
NOTE: The 3 1/2-inch drive bracket in the
desktop computers do not allow high profile
SIMM sticks to be installed in bank A.
8-MB, 16-MB, and 32-MB SIMM sticks cannot
be installed in the desktop's bank A.
NOTE: Although 1 MB and 2 MB kits are not
offered by NEC; Table Section 3-4 and Table
Section 3-6 provide all the possible configura-
tions.
