Description of display modes

HEAD-UP
A mode in which the heading line is always
indicated toward the top of the screen.
Since targets are shown as if they are seen from a
bridge, this mode is suitable for ship handling in
narrow channels and crowded sea areas.
However, the target picture becomes unstable with
own ship's turns or yawing.
The short dotted line on the bearing scale is the
north marker, indicating north.
NORTH-UP
True north is stabilized at the top of the screen (0
The heading line moves according to the course
change of own ship. This mode displays fixed targets
as if they are on the chart.
Even with own ship's turns or yawing, the fixed
targets are stable on the screen and stable picture
is displayed. This mode is suitable for ocean
voyage, ship position measurement, ship course
monitoring and so on.
COURSE-UP
When the COURSE-UP mode is selected the
heading line is oriented toward the desired direction
(such as a destination or a port), the heading (set
course) at that moment is fixed toward the top of the
screen (the bearing scale also rotates). Then, the
heading line moves according to the course change
of own ship. Since the initially set heading is
displayed always at the top of the screen, you can
know the difference between the set course and the
current course. Even with own ship's turns or
yawing, the fixed targets are stable on the screen
and stable picture is displayed. To set a new
course, select [COURSE-UP] in [DISPLAY MODE]
box again.

How to Select a Range

The selected range scale, fixed range ring interval and transmission pulse length are
shown at the upper left corner on the screen. (The display unit is selectable from NM,
km and SM.) When a target deemed dangerous comes closer, adjust the range scale
(such that the target appears in 50-90% of the display radius from own ship) to make the
positional relation between the target and own ship apparent.
How to expand or reduce the range
