Possible Cause
The cutting blades are blunt.
Cutting Speed to fast for grass conditions.
Too much grass is being removed in one pass.
Grass lain flat in direction of cut.

"Stragglers" are separated blades of incorrectly cut
grass.

Replace or sharpen blades.
Decrease the cutting speed.
Mow more often or raise the height of cut.
Change the direction of cut on each cut.
