Lamps
O n t h e French headlamp, release t h e t w o clips securing t h e adaptor and remove
t h e adaptor.
Take o u t the defective bulb by pressing it i n and turning t o t h e left.
W h e n replacing t h e bulb, engage t h e three points o n t h e bulb i n the slots o f the
adaptor, press i n and t u r n t o t h e r i g h t t o secure.
Replace t h e adaptor w i t h the
projection o n the adaptor engaging i n t h e slot o n t h e headlamp and secure by re-
fastening t h e clips.
Re-fit t h e r i m t o t h e nacelle, locating t h e b o t t o m o f t h e r i m
first.
Tlghten t h e securlng screw and check t h e beam setting.

T o gain access t o the bulbs, release the fastener catch at the base o f t h e lamp
when the r i m and reflector assembly can be removed f r o m the shell.
The focusing
of the main bulb is made by slackening t h e holder clip screw and moving t h e bulb
holder i n o r o u t as desired.
W h e n replacing t h e reflector r i m assembly,

fit
the
reflector t o the shell and locate w i t h t h e rubber head; assemble the r i m and glass,
engaging t h e tongue i n t o the t o p o f the shell and t h e fastener catch i n t o the rim.
S E T T I N G T H E H E A D L A M P B E A M
T o check the headlamp beam setting, place the motorcycle i n front of a light coloured
wall
a t a
distance o f about
25
feet
(8
metres). The machine should be carrying its
normal load during this check, since the weight o f the rider (and pillion passenger)
may affect t h e setting.
Switch o n t h e main beam.
This should be directed straigttt
ahead and parallel w i t h the ground.
If it i s not, loosen the t w o small screws on
either side of the lamp fixing ring, and raise o r lower the beam by pulling ~ u t o r
pressing in, the bortom of the ring.
W h e n the required adjustment has been
obtained, re-tighten the t w o screws.
W i t h the Lucas pre-focus type bulb fitted i n these lamps, the filament i s correctly
positioned during manufacture i n relation t o t h e focal point of the reflector.
N o
further focusing is necessary.
