Dismantling Rear Wheel (Quickly Detachable)

S p i n d l e Sleeve.
Unscrew the t w o locknuts o n t h e r i g h t hand end of the spindle
sleeve and push t h e sleeve o u t of the hub from the r i g h t hand side.
:Bearings.
Extract the inner r o l l e r races and dust cover. The outer
races
are a
press
fit
i n t h e hub and should be tapped out f r o m t h e opposite side w i t h
a
soft drift.
Care should be taken not t o damage t h e bearing backing rings i f there are no replace-
ment rings available.
R E M O V A L O F B R A K E D R U M AND S P R O C K E T
C h a i n . Engage a gear and remove the spring link; clear the chain from the sprocket.
B r a k e A d j u s t i n g N u t . Unscrew this n u t and remove the brake rod from t h e
lever arm.
B r a k e T o r q u e Stay. Remove the rear nut.
S p i n d l e Sleeve Nut. Unscrew this nut and remove the brake drum assembly
from t h e frame.

A n c h o r P l a t e Assembly.
H o l d t h e lever arm against the tension of the spring
t o prevent t h e brake shoes from binding and lift t h e anchor plate assembly away
f r o m t h e brake drum.
B r a k e Drum S p i n d l e Sleeve.
Push this sleeve o u t o f the brake drum, applying
pressure o n the threaded end.
Bearing.
Remove the bearing retaining circlip w i t h a pair of thin nosed circlip
pliers and tap olut the bearing, dust cap and felt washer.

Brake Shoes. Take off both brake shoe return springs and remove the brake shoes.
B r a k e S h o e C a m . Remove the nut and washer securing the lever arm t o the cam
spindle and take 0 8 the lever arm.

described on page 118, for the rigid
frame wheel, except for the followingdifferences.
B r a k e Drum a n d H u b Splines.
These should be a push fit into one another,
slackness at this point would cause the wheel t o chatter.
