Assembling Spring Wheel
I
Springs.
W h e n t h e pads have been fitted correctly t h e case should be split again
and re-assembled w i t h t h e springs.
Place t h e axle and guide o n t h e bench, w i t h
the longer side o f the axle t o t h e left and t h e convex side uppermost.
Lubricate and
insert t h e heavy and light springs i n t h e b o t t o m hole, w i t h t h e curvature o f the springs
conforming t o the guide.
Place t h e o t h e r spring i n t h e t o p hole i n t h e same way.
F i t
t h e rubber buffers and spring plates t o t h e springs, w i t h t h e plate curve con-
forming t o the guide.
,Fit
the assembly i n t o t h e jig, t h e t w o springs being i n t h e
lower position.
Depress t h e jig sufficiently t o allow t h e cases t o be fitted.

Grease and fit t h e casings, then release t h e jig and remove t h e assembly.

w i t h lubricant through t h e gap i n the cases and tap t h e cases together w i t h a
hide hammer.
Fir and tighten t h e six nuts and bolts. NOTE: t h e t o p rear b o l t
and t h e b o t t o m front bolt are made from
H.T.
steel: colour blue-black.
R E - A S S E M B L I N G T H E A N C H O R P L A T E A S S E M B L Y
B r a k e C a m Spindle.
Grease t h e spindle and
fit
t o t h e anchor plate.
Fit the
r e t u r n spring and lever arm, making certain that t h e lever arm
i s
i n t h e correct
position. Fit the remaining nut and tighten.
B r a k e Shoes. Place t h e brake shoes on the bench i n t h e position they w i l l occupy
i n t h e brake plate. Fit the springs and holding them i n tension, place t h e shoes over
the cam and pivot.
Press down and snap i n t o position.
R E - A S S E M B L I N G T H E R E A R S P R I N G W H E E L
Bearings. Fully load t h e bearings w i t h grease (See Recommended Lubricants) and
assemble t o the back plate and brake drum. Ensure that t h e bearing chip shield i n
each case, faces towards the hub centre.
H u b
S h e l l Bolts.
F i t
all the bolts t o each side of t h e hub shell
B r a k e D r u m . Assemble t h e brake d r u m t o t h e hub and lock t h e nuts w i t h new
locking plates.
S p r i n g B o x Assembly.
Fit t h e assembly i n t o t h e hub and press well home i n t o
the brake drum side bearings.
Shims. Fit the shims t o t h e hub, making sure that as many shims are replaced, as
were removed.
E n d Plate.
Replace the end plate and bearing and tighten up the nuts securely.
S l i p p e r R o l l e r , R.H.
Grease t h e slipper pads and spindle on the back plate side
and
fir
the slipper roller.
