R E - A S S E M B L Y
inlet
p u s h R o d s a n d C o v e r . First
fit
the l o w e r r u b b e r o i l seals over both tappet
blocks.
N o w assemble t h e inlet push rods and cover t o
:re
tappets and block.
Ensure t h a t t h e drain pipes are f i t t e d at this stage.

C y l i n d e r H e a d .
Fit t h e copper gasket t o t h e cylinder b l ~ : i and then
fit
the head
1
w i t h manifold.
Enter and screw d o w n t h e f o u r s h o r t bolts, b u t d o n o t
1
fully tighten.

I n l e t R o c k e r B o x .
Grease t h e rocker b o x gaskets and c ? p e r push rod cover
I
washer and assemble t o t h e rocker box.
T u r n t h e engir.e over until both inlet
I
push rods are nearly level and then assemble t h e r o c k e r b : x
t o the cylinder head
1
and push r o d cover.
Check that t h e gaskets have n o t t e e n . misplaced and then
enter t h e t w o short r o c k e r b o x holding d o w n bolts and f i r m l y screw down.
Fit
l
and tighten t h e t w o r o c k e r b o x t o cylinder head nuts.
T H E FiTTING O F
THE
BOLTS MUST PRECEDE T H E NUTS.
If t h e valve seats have been re-cut and t h e
valve faces re-ground,
it
is
a
good plan t o slacken back t h e r o c k e r adjuster before
fitting the rocker box.

E x h a u s t R o c k e r B o x .
Fit the push rods and cover t o t h e tappet and block (drain
pipes fitted). Fit the exhaust rocker box in exactly t h e same manner as the inlet one.

R o c k e r O i l D r a i n A d a p t o r s .
Ensure that t h e o i l drain adaptor bolts are clean
and then
fit
a
copper washer t o each.
Slide another copper washer between t h e
1
o i l drain banjo. and insert t h e adaptor and tighten.
Care should be exercised

I
I
I
when tightening i n t o an alloy head (TRS & T100).

C y l i n d e r H e a d H o l d i n g B o l t s . Position the remaining f o u r bolts (the torque stay
i
bolts t o t h e rear, see supplement) and screw d o w n u n t i l a g r i p i s felt. A l l eight bolts
i
I
i
should n o w be evenly tightened b u t do n o t use excessive force on the spanner.
T h e actual force required i s 18 ft. pounds; i f tightened beyond this figure distortion
may take place.

i
T o r q u e Stays.
Replace t h e stays t o the engine bolts and securely tighten t h e
i
nuts and clip bolts.

R o c k e r
Oil
F e e d Pipe.
Place one copper washer o n each rocker spindle;
fit
t h e
!
o i l pipe banjos over t h e spindles, followed by another copper washer and the t w o
domed nuts.
W h e n tightening the nuts, steady t h e o i l pipe at the spindles t o
1
prevent it turning, otherwise a broken joint may result.

T a p p e t s .
Re-set t h e tappets (see page 36) and replace t h e rocker inspection caps
complete w i t h new washers, t o the rocker box.
C a r b u r e t t e r - A r n a l .
If the carburetter slides have been removed, replace them
at this stage and after screwing down the knurled fixing ring, test the slide operation
i
by w o r k i n g t h e controls.
Position the flange washer t o the manifold (TR5 & T I 0 0
1
flange washer, tufnol block and flange washel) and then fit the carburetter t o the
studs.
Connect u p the filter connection; fit and tighten the flange nuts.

C a r b u r e t t e r - S . U .
Fit the flange washer and assemble the carburetter t o t h e
manifold, connect t h e air filter connection and vent pipe.
F i t and tighten the t w o
flange nuts. Assemble the t h r o t t l e cable t o the carburetter body and test operation.
