REMOVING T H E G E A R B O X FROM T H E FRAME

B a t t e r y C a r r i e r a n d A i r C l e a n e r Assembly. Disconnect t h e cable and remove
t h e battery. Remove t h e t w o base screws and strap nut and remove the battery
carrier, together w i t h t h e air cleaner.
E x h a u s t S y s t e m . Unscrew the front connections and silencer hanger bolts and
remove t h e t w o exhaust pipes and silencers complete.
F o o t b r a k e Pedal. Unscrew the spindle nut and slide the pedal
off
the spindle.
Footrests.
Remove the left hand footrest securing nut and remove the left hand
footrest. W i t h d r a w the other footrest complete w i t h rod. D o nor lose the
distance piece between the chaincase and the engine plate.
P r i m a r y Chaincase O u t e r C o v e r .
Disconnect the three leads from the stator,
underneath t h e saddle.
Remove the screws connecting the outer cover t o the
inner.
Place a tray under the chaincase t o catch the oil and remove the outer cover,
pulling t h e stator lead through the inner cover.
E n g i n e S p r o c k e t a n d R o t o r . Bend back the locking tab on the r o t o r retaining
washer and loosen the retaining nut.
C l u t c h .
Remove as indicated on page 83 when the clutch housing is free on the
shaft. Unscrew the n u t on the engine shaft and remove the clutch, engine sprocket,
r o t o r and primary chain together.
Remove the Woodruff key from the gearbox
mainshaft.
P r i m a r y Chaincase I n n e r Cover. Unscrew the nut and bolt connecting the rear
chain guard .to the inner cover. Unscrew t h e three screws connecting the inner
cover t o the crankcase and remove the inner cover.
R e a r Chain. Take o u t the spring link and remove the
r e a r
chain from the gearbox
sprocket.
C l u t c h Cable. Disconnect the cable nipple from the gearbox clutch lever and
completely unscrew the adjuster f r o m the inner cover, t o release the cable.
S p e e d o m e t e r Cable.
Unscrew the cable nut at the gearbox end and withdraw
the cable.
P r i m a r y C h a i n A d j u s t e r . Unscrew the n u t which secures the adjuster t o the
frame.
G e a r b o x C l a m p B o l t . Remove the clamp bolt nut and tap the bolt through the
frame lug.
