Removing the Engine from the Fro
D y n a m o .
Remove the terminal wires and t h e domed n u t o n t h e timing cover.
Slacken t h e clip screw and w i t h d r a w t h e dynamo.
except t h e . l o w e r front.
R e a r E n g i n e Plates.
Remove t h e t w o f r o n t t o p studs and nuts and slacken the
remainder.
Engine.
Tilt
t h e engine towards t h e rear of t h e machine and swing forward the
f r o n t engine plate.
The engine can n o w be llfted o u t of t h e frame.
R E M O V I N G T H E E N G I N E F R O M THE FRAME
( S W I N G I N G A R M F R A M E M O D E L S )
T w i n s e a t .
Remove f r o n t and slacken t h e rear securing bolts; detach twinseat.
P e t r o l T a n k .
T u r n off t h e petrol taps, disconnect the petrol pipes, unscrew the
four tank b o l t s and remove t h e tank.
E x h a u s t S y s t e m .
Remove t h e exhaust pipe and silencer zssemblies by slackening
the finned clip bolts and removing t h e bracket and silencer bolts.
T o r q u e Stays.
Slacken t h e frame lug bolt, unscrew the stay t o engine bolt nuts,
when t h e stays can be removed f r o m the engine.
C o n t r o l Cables.
Disconnect t h e magneto and t h r o t t l e cable at handlebar and the
air cable a t rear stays (under twinseat). Neatly loop the cables as close
as
possible
t o t h e i r respective engine fitting.
Footrests.
Remove both footrests b u t leave t h e spindle i n position.
F o o t b r a k e Pedal. Take o u t the split-pin securing the operating r o d t o the pedal
and then unscrew the pedal spindle n u t when the pedal can be withdrawn after
disengaging t h e stop lamp switch spring.
P r i m a r y Chaincase. A l t e r n a t o r , C l u t c h a n d Engine S p r o c k e t .
Remove these
parts
as
described o n page
83.
Oil Pipes.
Place an o i l d r i p tray under the engine and disconnect the engine
o i l pipes a t the crankcase and the rocker feed pipe at the rocker b o x spindles.
D y n a m o .
Remove the terminal wires and the dome nut o n the timing cover.
F r o n t F n g i n e Plates.
Place a box of suitable height under the crankcase so that
the sump plate rests o n
it.
Remove the nuts from the t w o upper studs. The studs
can then be driven o u t and the cover plate removed. Slacken the dynamo clip screw
and w i t h d r a w the dynamo f r o m the housing.
Remove t h e remaining studs r o
release t h e f r o n t engine plates.
R e a r E n g i n e Plates.
Here it
i s
only necessacy t o deal w i t h the engine plates t o
crankcase studs.
Remove t h e t w o t o p studs and nuts and slacken off the nuts
securing t h e lower stud.
Engine.
Remove the box and
t i l t
the englne towards the rear of the machine
when the lower crankcase stud wi!l disengage itself from the engine plates.
L i f t
t h e engine o u t of the frame housing.
